Stallion Prospects

The out-of-the-park home run horse is the stallion prospect.

One of the hottest and most successful young stallions is Forestry.  He is probably the poster child of how to play the high-end of the market.  His sire, Storm Cat, commands a $500,000 fee for a single breeding.

McKathan Brothers selected Forestry for Aaron and Marie Jones at the Keeneland July yearling sale where he was the sale topper at $1.5 million.  He won the Grade 1 Kings Bishop Stakes in Saratoga which catapulted him into the stratosphere as a sire prospect.  Upon his retirement to Taylor Made Farm, Forestry stood for a fee of $50,000 (the highest for a first-year sire at the time).  With the success of his first runners, in 2005, he stands for a $75,000 stud fee and will generate over $7 million in stud fee income in 2005 for his owners.  He is fast approaching $20 million in stud fee income.

Genetic immortality is achieved when the great horse racehorse becomes a great sire. One of the greatest breeders of Modern times was an Italian named  Federico Tesio. He raced Nearco and Ribot both of whom were undefeated. Both went on to become great sires. The amazing thing is that 70% of all American thoroughbreds trace back to those two stallions.

Each year, the horses we have selected and trained for our clients who have gone on to distinguish themselves on the racetrack end up joining the elite stallion rosters at the nation's leading farms, from Forestry at Taylor Made to El Corredor at Hill 'n' Dale to Congaree at Adena Springs, our clients horses are leaving their mark on the breed.
