The McKathan Brothers
Training Facility

Located some 15 miles northeast of Ocala, the McKathan Brothers Training Center is a 200-acre full-service facility. Meticulously designed and developed to cater to the Thoroughbred racehorse, the facility is nestled among hammocks of majestic live oaks. Beyond the aesthetics, the operation focuses on efficiency, containment and safety.

The centerpiece of the training center is the three-quarter mile racetrack, which incorporates generous 55' wide sweeping turns. Built by Gerald Wright, the track boasts a 24 inch clay base, 4 inches of sub-base, and 3-1/2 inches of meticulously maintained cushion. The track also features gates 7-12 of a historic Churchill Downs auxiliary gate that was used from 1917-1977. Completely refurbished, the gate is in fine working order.

McKathan Training Center
is a full service facility.
There are two main concrete block training barns of 40 stalls each and accentuated by heat-dispersing cupolas. Each barn has an outer shedrow that is one-eighth of a mile in circumference, enclosed by white vinyl fencing and suitable for jogging on inclement weather days. The paths leading from each barn to the track are also bordered by the safety fencing.

To complement the training process, there is an equine swimming pond and a round pen constructed of prime timber. There are some 40 turnout paddocks and another 20-stall barn for any overflow during peak training season.
