The Chamber of Commerce in Ocala, Florida trademarked the slogan, "Horse Capital of the World".  That sums up in five words, why Ocala.

Ocala is a mecca for horses.  Unlike other places where there are seasonal spikes in the nutritional planes which can have a deleterious effect on bone growth, in Ocala, Florida, the combination of consistent forage quality year-round coupled with a deep soil cushion under which is a limestone base, affords optimal bone development. Florida-breds have long seemed to outperform the quality of the local gene pool.  Many have attributed this to environment.  Horses thrive in Ocala. The mineral-rich soil and water allow you to raise a good horse. J.B. McKathan has an adage which says, "if it's bad for your pipes, it's good for your horse." Think about it.

Ocala is home to some of the world's best blacksmiths, exercise riders, veterinary practioners and horsemen in general.  There isn't a problem in a horse that hasn't been seen or access to someone that knows how to fix it.
